The Finch Cemetery dates back to the late 1800s and is located at the Jay County Conservation Club. It is said to hold the grave of a boy named Cinderella. Stories say the gravestones here shift or disappear. Supposedly, if you count the gravestones on the way to Cinderella’s grave, you will count 13. But on the way back, there are only 11.

The Ghost at Finch Cemetery

I have a picture of an apparition above an unmarked child's gravesite next to a large tree off a narrow trail that leads to the actual graveyard. The apparition is clearly the Virgin Mary. I believe She was there to protect the deceased child's Immortal Soul.

Cinderella Steed

Cinderella Steed was the daughter of John Thomas Steed and Elithea (Martin) Steed. She was born June 15, 1858 and died December 20, 1859. She was only 18 months old.

John Thomas Steed was originally from Virginia. He was living in Warren County, Ohio when he bought 80 acres in Jay County, IN from the US government in 1837.

Elithea Martin was from Indiana. She and John Steed were married in Jay County, Indiana in 1847.

Together they would have nine children...five boys and four girls including Cinderella. The rest of the children all lived to adulthood and had children of their own. Therefore, there is a great probability that there are descendants of the Steed family in the area.

Both of Cinderella's parents and several of her siblings are also buried in that cemetery. It looks like the last siblings were buried there in the 1930s.

These were some of Indiana's first pioneers. They cleared the land, built their homes, started their farms and had several children. We should honor their memory and their legacy.

Neat site, I believe it to be wrong information

On the tombstone of Cinderella reads, "Dau. of...", which leads me to believe that Cinderella is actually a little girl, or the DAUGHTER of... neat site, but I wish there was some way to verify that the information is correct so we can remember and respect this child appropriately.
I did not have any haunted experiences here, rather just a little curious and slightly disappointed.
