This old jail was built in 1875 and is rumored to be haunted by an alcoholic bully, Charles Butler, who shot his wife in 1883. After the shooting, he was jailed here but escaped along with four other prisoners when Sheriff Frank Allwein was out. Butler was caught by the Sheriff shortly after when he was passed out in a bar. Once he was found he was tried and sentenced to hang, but his hanging did not go as planned. There were difficulties with the gallows, which lead Butler to be strangled for about 10 minutes before he died. His ghost is said to be electrically charged and has been blamed for cameras not working and batteries draining. There have been reports of display costumes moving on their own, footsteps, voices and laughter coming from the corner of a room. Also known to haunt the jail is an unknown female and Sheriff Allwein as well.
