A student died of alcohol poisoning at Burford Hall. Today, the ghost named Barb haunts the place as witnesses claim hearing vomiting and crying in the bathroom. Cromwell Hall also had an incident of a man jumping from a window to his death on the west side at room 1221. People have reported incidents of unexplainable footsteps and noises.

I lived in Burford Hall as a freshman in 1994-95, on the 6th floor. I worked at the Pizza Hut in the Hulnan Memorial Student Union, which closed at midnight. One night after closing, and arriving back to the hall around 1am, I went to the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth before bed. After a moment, I heard a woman vomiting and crying. I stopped and called out, "Are you okay?" No answer. I went over by the stalls, and pushed on each door, looking in. No one was in the bathroom besides me.
